CHINA'S LEADING SUPPLIER OF COPPER MOLD TUBES AND PLATES FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING INDUSTRY

WHY COPPER MOULD TUBE BE BLACK
Release Date:2026-01-30

1. Blackening caused by oxidation of copper tubes

The surface of the copper tubes in the steel plant's mold will form a black oxide film due to the chemical reaction between the copper surface and the oxygen in the air. The formation of the black oxide film on the surface of the copper tubes will have a negative impact on the color and luster of the copper tubes. In severe cases, it will affect their performance. To address this issue, the surface of the copper tubes can be cleaned with a cleaner or some acidic solutions to restore their luster and performance.

2. Copper Tube Corrosion Leading to Blackening

Copper tubes are exposed to high temperatures and highly corrosive environments for long periods in the steel plant's mold, causing corrosion on their surfaces. After corrosion, the surface of the copper tubes turns black, which is due to the change of substances on the surface. When copper tubes are blackened due to corrosion, coating or spraying anti-corrosion materials can be adopted to protect them and enhance their corrosion resistance.

3. Sediment Causing Blackening

After the continuous operation of the steel plant's mold for a period of time, some sediments may adhere to the surface of the copper tube of the mold. These sediments can cover the surface of the copper tube, causing it to turn black. By using cleaning agents and high-pressure cleaning methods, the sediments on the surface of the copper tube can be effectively removed, restoring its luster and performance.

In conclusion, the blackening of copper tubes in steel plant molds may be attributed to multiple factors such as oxidation, corrosion, and sedimentation. To prolong the service life of the copper tubes, regular maintenance and upkeep of the steel plant mold copper tubes are necessary. Additionally, steel plants can also consider using more sterile water to clean the molds, which helps prevent the formation of bacteria and oxidation, reducing the likelihood of the copper tubes turning black.
